The Legal Practitioners Conduct Board (the Board) is an independent body responsible for the handling of complaints about lawyers in South Australia.
The Board is established by the Legal Practitioners Act and is an independent statutory authority with full legal powers. The Board is not a government department nor is it part of the Law Society of South Australia.
The Board is a disciplinary body responsible for the investigation of suspected misconduct by lawyers. The Board also has the power to investigate complaints of overcharging. The Board takes appropriate disciplinary action in relation to professional misconduct before the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal and the Supreme Court. The Board employs investigators who answer enquiries and who investigate complaints of alleged misconduct. With the consent of all parties involved, the Board can also conciliate some cost and service disputes.
